Beach Painting on Reclaimed Wood

Well I did it! I was so inspired by all the beautiful beach paintings I found on Pinterest that I finally went and made one for myself. :)

I made this painting with tongue and groove pine wood that we saved from a nature store that closed up years ago. They used the T&G on the walls as display racks for birdhouses and outdoor items. It's been in our shop forever. My husband recently built our new King Sized Bed out of the T&G Pine and I decided to do a King Sized Beach painting for over the bed.

I had to work on this painting fast - it was a warm day and the paint was drying quickly. For months I've been gathering colors from the 'tried&returned' table at Home Depot (50 cents a jar), just sea and sand colors that caught my eye. Evidently I've been planning this for a long time lol.
When I was ready to get painting I realized I didn't have enough blues so I made a quick dash to the Hobby Lobby for some acrylics as well.

So this painting is a mish mash of acrylics, latex and chalk paint. I used several different types of containers to mix the colors until I got what I wanted, then just brushed it on, and also dry brushed it a bit. I used a combination of different brushes - small artist and big wall painting brushes. I used small sponge brushes in a few areas as well. 

In other words... this painting is one of a kind and I seriously doubt I could ever reproduce the colors I used, or the technique on any given spot. Basically I channeled my inner "Bob Ross" and just painted happy sand, happy water, happy sky and happy clouds.

It worked because I'm quite happy with it. :)

In case you're wondering, yes the painting's huge - 6 feet long by 2 feet tall. 

I only snapped a few photos while I was painting, but here they are:
(please excuse the messy shop - we were in the middle of the bedroom makeover and it was a disaster area! lol)

This was so much fun! I can't wait to do another one :D
